Living Firme is a lifestyle brand that is fueled by the desire to unify community, stimulate economy and celebrate culture. We are a small business, literally started by a couple of homegirls dedicated to doing good in the hood. As an event production company, we specialize in urban pop-ups that mashup swap meets, crafts fairs and old school house parties. We host business networking and empowerment workshops that support the Latinx community. Of course we have a tiendita. We sell locally sourced, branded items like t-shirts, baseball caps and tote bags. We work hard, love what we do and truly believe there is always enough of what’s good, to go around.
Now about those homegirls…
Cynthia Carranza grew up in Hacienda Heights, CA. Since early childhood, Cynthia has been as intrigued by human adversity as she was by Couture Fashion. After high school, Cynthia pursued her education in Fashion Merchandising and continued her education in business. Throughout her career, she has worked in retail management, office management, and Medical Front Office management. She always maintained an extra income by selling Fashion jewelry. That’s how she received the nickname “Sparkles.” She’s been fortunate to have a natural intuition for fashion forecasting. She’s utilized this ability as her advantage in buying products that were “on point” in her community and allowed her to move merchandise at a quick pace. Cynthia’s other passion is community advocacy, at church, in the private sector or at the many well known outreach programs, Cynthia is often leading the charge in organizing and funding.
Currently, Cynthia is working on a new brand, Living Firme with Angel Aviles. The partners are in complete agreement that their success will be measured by their ability to help as many people as possible. They will continue to reach out to the homeless community, the disenfranchised and those in need of work. Cynthia is excited to be involved in a venture that allows her to pursue her passion for fashion and reminds her to be grateful at the same time.
Angel Aviles grew up in New York City. One could say her homelife was literally filled with drama. Even though the family was of very modest means, her mother was part of a local theater group and exposed all her children to the arts. It didn’t take long for Angel’s vibrant creative spirit to manifest itself. She studied dance, at the prestigious High School of Performing Arts, and drama at various studios throughout New York as well at Hunter College.
Once bitten by the acting bug, Angel left college with several commercials as well as a few film and television projects added to her resume. In 1992, Angel followed her brother, to Los Angeles. Some may recall her brother, Rick Aviles as Willie Lopez in the film classic GHOST. Angel’s work in Los Angeles included projects by Quentin Tarantino, Alan Rudolph, Michael Patrick King, and Steven Bochco. Landing a principal role in the Allison Anders gang-girl classic, “Mi Vida Loca,” was a milestone. The role of Sadgirl became an iconic character in Chicano film and the most noteworthy role of Angel’s career.
While on the set of the Robert Rodriguez film “Desperado”, Angel spotted her first non-linear editing system. In 1996, Angel returned to school to study, multimedia production. As a media producer, she completed work for a variety of high profile clients. As her skillset grew, so did her desire to connect to her community. In 2004, a blog she started with her creative partner, became a popular online cultural exchange that encouraged people to express themselves artistically. In 2009, Angel began her journey of self-discovery and health, hence her own blog, www.AngelAwakened.com, was born.
Today, Angel is a motivational speaker, a transformational life coach and a community advocate. On any given weekend Angel spends in Los Angeles, you will find her serving the homeless, fundraising for the many causes she supports or simply catching up with her family. Her ability to reach out to communities all over the world is a gift and her calling. With humor, humility and relatable vulnerability, Angel is able to reach across the chasms that separate communities. Angel travels the world but can be found online on a weekly live chat with her fans. Her message is always simple. “No matter where you have been, master your mind and you can live the life of your dreams.”
